Summit County: Colorado's *Summer* Playground

Summit County: Colorado's *Summer* Playground

Summit County is considered “Colorado’s Playground” for good reason. Located right in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the area encompasses the lovely mountain towns of Keystone, Dillon, Frisco, Silverthorne, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain & Heeney. Boasting 300+ days of sunshine, there are endless chances to celebrate and enjoy the great outdoors. Here are just a few of our favorite things about our home town in the summertime….

The Dillon Farmers Market

This weekly occurrence is truly the highlight of the week up here. Bringing together local makers, artisans & farmers, The Dillon Farmers Market has become an absolute staple in our community. Positioned right along beautiful Lake Dillon, you’ll come for the shopping & stay for the views!

Mountain / Road Biking

With hundreds of miles of trails surrounding our area, there is no shortage of options for your two tires to hit the pavement or the dirt. The Summit County Rec Path alone boasts a 55-mile long network of paved, non-motorized pathway that connects towns and resorts throughout the county & beyond. If you prefer the single-track option, you’re in luck! Summit County was named the No. 1 mountain-biking destination in Colorado by, which cited 812 miles of trail within a 25-mile radius of Summit’s epicenter.

Water Activities: Fishing, Rafting, Kayaking & More

We’ve got the Gold Medal Blue River through Silverthorne, The Snake River through Keystone, The Maggie in Breck, and so many other streams and sideshoots its hard to keep track! Whether you’re into hitting the rapids, gentle floats, or fishing trips, there are plenty of options for every kind of friend or family adventure. On top of that, globally recognized Lake Dillon is great for sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, or renting out a pontoon boat!

The (Local) Live Music

From the Dillon Amphitheater (honestly, one of the best music venues we’ve been to), to other local outdoor theater options like Silverthorne Performing Arts Center, Rainbow Park in Silverthorne, Frisco’s Historic Park, and Breck’s newly announced Air Stage, options abound to see the abundance of talent that resides here, or the array of national acts who can’t wait to step foot on our stages surrounded by beauty.

Guided Adventures: Train Rides to Aerial Parks

Arapahoe Basin’s newly opened Via Ferrata is the highest in Colorado, and can be accompanied by their Aerial Adventure Park for a full day of guided fun that lets you experience the Rockies like our crazy locals do, without the years of experience it might require to get on their level. Other fun options for a day of guided activity might be a scenic train ride like the Georgetown Loop or the Leadville Train.

Campgrounds in Summit County, Colorado, put you in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, where you'll find plenty of fresh air, sparkling lakes and outdoor recreation. You'll find a range of camping opportunities in White River National Forest, where most of the campgrounds exist. Campgrounds make good base camps for exploring all the outdoor recreation the area offers. Camping outside developed campgrounds offers another option in White River National Forest or Eagles Nest WIlderness, mostly utilized via backpacking trips. Pay attention to national forest regulations, and make sure to leave no trace!
